Microsoft Edge is a web browser designed by Microsoft. It came out as "Project Spartan" in Windows 10 Build 10014 and it stayed in with the RTM in 2015. Microsoft Edge was made to replace Internet Explorer. It is based on the new "EdgeHTML" rendering engine.
On 6 December 2018, Microsoft announced a plan to rebuild Edge from scratch as a classic Win32 application, which would be based on Chromium and would be available for Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. It is also planned to bring Edge to "other platforms like macOS". On or before 2019-03-24, preview versions of the Chromium-based browser were leaked to the internet. On or before 2019-04-08, preview versions of the new browser were officially released. The Chromium version of Edge was released on 2020-01-05.
On 2020-08-17, Microsoft announced that the legacy version of Edge would no longer be supported from 2021-03-09 and that they recommend people to switch to the Chromium based version.
