Windows Me Build 2429 is a Post-Beta 2 Build of Windows Me. Prior to it being shared to the public, screenshots of the build were released by KenOath.[1] This build was uploaded to BetaArchive's FTP server on 2020-01-30 by ReflectiaX.[2] This is the latest known Windows 9x build to use teal as the default desktop background color, as it would be switched over to blue in the next available build.
Changes[]
- Windows Media Pad (Movie Maker) is now listed in the components list during setup and can be installed this way.
- A Connect to the Internet shortcut is now placed on the desktop.
- Help and Support has a new icon, which is also used in Windows Neptune Build 5111.1.
- System Restore has been redesigned in the same style as Help and Support.
- The "Windows is shutting down..." screen no longer appears when shutting down the system. Instead, it shows a black screen for a while until the blue safe to shutdown screen appears. This is the last build to feature this temporary screen.
Bugs[]
Installation[]
When running setup from inside Windows, setup will fail to restart and attempting to exit setup will cause the system to hang. Hard-resetting the machine continues setup as normal.
S3 Drivers[]
Upon using S3 video adapters, Windows will complain that its own drivers will not work properly, thus the display will be stuck at 640x480x4bpp
. This error will also appear upon every boot and other drivers cannot be installed correctly, meaning that S3 video adapters are not recommendable for this build.
It is possible install Virtual PC S3 Drivers, But after finishing installation of VM Additions, you must restart and set the the resolution 800x600x16
after that.
You may still need use Windows 98 or previous Windows Me Build 2394 in order to upgrade this build.
Alternatively, you can use VMware Tools by running VMware Workstation or Player. It lacks High Color (16-bit)
- VMware Workstation 6.5.2 is recommended that includes
